There is a lot of misinformation out there about erectile dysfunction. Men who suffer from the condition are often too embarrassed to talk about it and are susceptible to the lies of people trying to push miracle pills and supplements on them as part of some fake cure. The following are the five biggest myths that must be understood so that the path to erectile dysfunction treatment can begin.
1. Only Older Men get ED
Young men think that they cannot possibly suffer from erectile dysfunction, that it is something that only happens when they age. Unfortunately, this is simply not true. The condition is more common in older men, but they are not the only ones who suffer from it. It can actually affect men of any age who are sexually mature.
There is nothing necessarily wrong with being a young man who suffers from ED. There are a wide variety of erectile dysfunction treatments available that can have tremendous benefits. It is important that young men see past the stigma of ED as “an old man’s disease” and look towards getting help when they need it.
2. Nothing Dangerous Causes ED
Sometimes, erectile dysfunction is just one symptom of an underlying serious medical condition. The penis is affected by many parts of the body, such as the heart. The inability to get or maintain an erection could be an early warning of a problem with the heart that is affecting the blood flow. In fact, catching a heart problem via ED can mean avoiding a heart attack.
3. Getting Old Means ED is Inevitable
Not all older men have erectile dysfunction. It is undoubtedly true that it becomes more common with age, but it is not a certainty. Men must not accept it as an inevitability. For starters, as discussed in the previous point, it may actually be the first symptom of a much more serious underlying condition. The only way to know for sure is to talk to your doctor. Not only will they be able to help treat the condition, but they can also rule out more serious problems.
4. People with ED are not Attracted to their Partners
Many different things can cause erectile dysfunction. We have already seen how a problem with the heart can prevent you from getting an erection, and that is only the beginning. Stress, depression, tobacco use, and alcohol consumption are all external forces that can have a serious effect. Additionally, sometimes it simply is not possible to get an erection after a difficult or exhausting day. There is a saying that gets thrown around that is worth taking into account “the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. This means that you can be attracted to your partner with all of your heart and can still fail to perform.
5. People with ED cannot get an Erection
Erectile dysfunction is not a simple condition. It affects a lot of men, and the way in which they manifest their symptoms varies enormously. For some, they can get an erection but cannot maintain it for very long. Others have difficulty getting an erection but have little trouble maintaining it once it is there. Then there are those who both struggle to obtain and keep an erection. It is even possible for people to experience all or none of these issues on different days, depending on a wide variety of other factors. Some men may think that because they can get an erection some of the time, there is no underlying problem. However, if they are struggling to get or maintain an erection often for at least three months, then it is time to see a doctor.
